WinAmp plugin FAQ |
|
Time for a sticky on the WinAmp plugin and visualization widgets;
1) WinAmp 2 or 5 is supported.
2) c:\program files\winamp\plugins must contain the WinampNative.dll (it is copied there by default when you install Studio).
If you have installed WinAmp in another place or your OS is in a different language; manually copy that .dll to the WinAmp plugins folder.
Please note that the WinampNative.dll only provides the visualizations (the wave and spectrum widgets), all other WinAmp info is handled by the WinAmp plugin.
3) make sure you start the plugin, otherwise you won't see the spectrum analyzers (but you will see the other WinAmp info).
- CTRL+K to open the plugins visualization dialogue, select LcdStudio visualization library, click START.
- or CTRL+SHIFT+K to start it directly.
- check 'Plugins>Auto execute vis plugin on playback' if you're a lazy sob.
4) kinda more exotic case here, has to do with filenames and administrator rights.
5) fun with filenames.
6) It is possible to tie the Winamp.VuLeft and Winamp.VuRight LcdDataItems to the Gauge widget (VU meters) or an animated gif to create some funky style visualizations. Experiment with it's min/max value.
7) Winamp Status icons tied to a custom variable read up here and here.

You should activate the "Auto execute visualisation plug-in on playback" option in the "Plug-Ins" section. Otherwise you have always to active the plugin manually.

What about Genre support for winamp?
And if im not mistaken theres no support for ratings, in either WMP or Winamp.

the star ratings you can set in wmp, or the ratings you can set by right clicking a file in winamp and going to 'rate items'.

Must be the fact that I'm still using Winamp 2.91... never knew they put ratings in there. Do they have any other usefullness except decorative?
Like, do ratings affect random playback or anything?

Actually I have no idea, ive never really used the winamp ratings because I'm still trying to finish organising all my music in WMP, once everything is totaly rated and i've set all my genres il transfer the ratings over to winamp because winamp is definitly the best music player I've come across. WMP is better for library sorting though which is why I have to use it.
One thing that I do find pretty useful is that any files that have an incorrect file source (or un plugged hard drive) can be customized to show a different colour for text/background, and in case you do like the decorative features the 'toaster' plugin is something I find I can't live without.
And just a random question but are you the same spock as the one on irc.dal.net/windows95.
